But Cape May isn't just about Victorian architecture; our location at the very southern tip of New Jersey offers world class beaches and water sports, a thriving arts community, a birder's paradise due to migration patterns, first rate sport fishing and a plethora of top rated restaurants. Cape May is a major commercial fishing port, annually ranked in the top five ports along the entire East Coast, by pounds of catch and dollar volume. The U.S. Coast Guard also is a major presence in Cape May, where the nation's only basic training facility is located.
Cape May's premiere natural resource is its' beachfront. The city's beaches have been ranked among the nation's best and cleanest. Our beaches serve as host to a variety of special events, including twice having hosted the United States Lifesaving Association's National Championships. Many additional lifeguard competitions, Ironman competitions and marathons take place here. Dolphin watching is a more laid back, but daily, event on the beachfront as well. All of the city's beaches are carefully guarded by a well trained and professional team of lifeguards. |
